Every day, thousands of Ontario drivers receive traffic tickets. For most people, it is a frustrating experience that they just want to resolve. When most people receive a traffic ticket, such as a speeding ticket, they just pay the fine and forget about it. If you pay your ticket fine, you are acknowledging to the court and to your insurance company that you are guilty. There are many consequences to receiving a ticket that one should consider before paying the fine.

The following lists the benefits of fighting a traffic ticket in Ontario:

Insurance Rates: After pleading guilty to a traffic ticket, the offense will show on your driving record. When the insurance company finds out, your insurance rates will go up. A speeding ticket will tell the insurance company that you are a high risk, so they will raise your insurance premium. One traffic ticket may not affect your insurance rates, but if you have multiple tickets, your insurance rates will increase. Also, you dont know if you will get another ticket in the future. Fighting a first ticket may help keep your insurance rates from increasing if you receive a second ticket in the future. As well, if you have a traffic ticket that will be coming off of your record in the near future, avoiding multiple traffic convictions will keep your insurance rates from increasing.

Often referred to as disability income insurance, disability insurance is a type of insurance policy that inures that a person receives long term financial benefits in the event of an accident that leads to an inability to work or function, or if a person becomes afflicted with an illness, leaving them unable to work. Disability insurance benefits can be disbursed either as a short-term disability, long-term disability, and paid sick leave.

The purpose of disability insurance is to replace the lost income from your work income if you were to suddenly become disabled. The policy that one purchases will contain an outline of the conditions of which one is eligible to receive disability benefits. That is, there will be an explanation within the policy about what constitutes a disability. Normally, one has to be on leave from work for a specified time period before they can begin to receive disability benefits. The policy will define the amount of the payments and the length of the coverage. The payments will continue for the length of the disability, or until the time limit that was set by the insurer has expired.

A disability policy premium that one pays is determined by a number of factors that are devised by the insurance company. This can include risk factors associated with the type of work that one is involved in. For instance, a person working in a high risk job such as explosive demolition of buildings will usually pay a higher premium than a receptionist. Disability benefits are designed to replace lost income so you can use the payments for your own personal needs. Insurance companies will not allow you to have disability coverage for more than about 60 percent or 70 percent of your normal taxable income

What it Takes to be an Expert Witness

An expert witness is an individual who is an expert in a particular field and they can offer valuable information in a criminal trial. They dont have to witness the crime in order to be a witness. All they have to have is an expert opinion about certain aspects of the case. And virtually any person who is an expert in a particular field can be an expert witness.

Types of expert witnesses

The most common expert witnesses are those working in the medical field. Doctors are frequently called in medical malpractice cases. They are also called forth in rape cases and murder cases. They know about various biological factors that a judge, lawyer, or a regular person may not even know. For instance, a murder trial may need a surgeon to talk about markings on the body before the murder. These could be surgery scars or some other sort of scar. It is important to point out these details even when they are not relevant to the murder itself.

What is a Spinal Cord Injury?

A spinal cord injury can occur as a result of several different causes – automobile accidents, high intensity impact (as could be common in a sports injury), falls, physical abuse or any kind of trauma could potentially cause a spinal cord injury. In some instances the impact need not even be all that severe if the pressure of it is pointed at precisely the right spot.

Injuries to the spinal cord are often broken down into one of two classifications – they are either complete spinal cord injuries or incomplete spinal cord injuries. The more severe of the two classifications is the ‘complete’ Spinal Cord Injury.

Contrary to popular belief, in a complete spinal cord injury the spinal cord is rarely broken or severed – in fact a severed spinal cord almost never occurs. The victim of a complete spinal cord injury will have lost both feeling and motor function from the point of the injury down through the rest of the body – so if the complete spinal cord injury were to occur at the base of the neck, the person would lose the use of and feeling in everything below the neck. Though recovery from what were considered complete spinal cord injuries has occurred, it is extremely unlikely – less than five percent of complete spinal cord injury sufferers will have any recovery from their injuries.
