It is time to celebrate if you get an IRS Refund …any refund. Even a little one! If you are like me, until you actually do your taxes you have no idea if you will be getting a refund or will have to pay the government, mega bucks!
You should have a general idea whether to expect a refund or a payment to the government but the way the tax code and your personal situation changes from year to year makes it somewhat hard to figure out.
Some ambitious people do year-end planning that allows them to come up with a way to maximize the IRS Refund that they will receive each year. Then they get to use that money for a vacation or to buy something special after the long winter.

Each time you earn income, the IRS will require you to state it as part of your income. At the end of the year, you add to your total income and declare this amount on your tax return the IRS.
Withheld Tax Payments
If you work for an employer, then the tax is withheld from your gross salary prior to receiving the net and then paid to the IRS by your employer. You may also find that income tax is withheld from several other types of income you receive, such as pensions or unemployment payments.

If you are looking to cut down the amount of time it takes to get your money back from the Federal Government, one of the best ways is to Efile Taxes. For anyone that may not know, efile is short for electronic filing. It allows you to fill out your information and send it across the Internet to the Internal Revenue Service.
This process is fast because it is almost instantaneous, you do not have to get an envelope and a stamp, and then drive a car and stand in line at the post office, and then ask if it ever got there.
When you send Efile Taxes and you have a proof that you sent with your e-mail and the receipt it generates. Also for you eco-friendly types, you actually save paper when you efile taxes if you are kind to the earth as well.

Free tax help is very good for people, since there is a 50% chance that when all said and done. You will be one of those Americans that end up owing some money to the US government in the form of taxes.
Nowadays, it is as simple as doing a web based search to lookup. There is a plethora of available information at a little or no charge at all, all you have to do is seek it out.
Let us face it, a Certified Public Accountant, the local tax service; a decent software package and even your brother in law are all candidates to help you with your taxes. Some of them offer low cost or free IRS tax help and some of them are pricey.
