What does the great state of Texas have in common with mesothelioma injury cases? We are going to find out.

Asbestos exposure is the cause for mesothelioma and other diseases such asbestosis. The material used to be very popular and praised as one of the best building materials. However, the situation did change at some point.

Being extremely resistant to heat and fire, that’s what asbestos was known for best and that’s why it was used in areas that were typically considered of being exposed to a higher risk of inflammation. As good as it sounds, but there is always two sides to each story. Because only a few decades later after it became so popular, report after report came in showing that the amount of people being diagnosed with mesothelioma and asbestosis was rising constantly.

Texas found itself among the top ten states reporting the largest number or reported mesothelioma injury incidents. It currently ranks in fifth place. Ahead are New York, Pennsylvania, California and Florida.

One may ask now, if there could be an underlying reason for the fact that Texas is so high up on this list. A rather obvious one is the fact that this state is known for having a huge petroleum industry and a lot of ship building facilities. Both use asbestos a lot. And after all, there are also many regular homes that were never updated and therefore may still contain risky quantities of the material.

It was up until the mid 1980s and not only in the USA, when asbestos was used widely in the building and construction industry. It was easy to produce but most importantly, inexpensive to manufacture. Some of the building supply manufacturing companies changed their entire production line and based it on to asbestos.

If you come across a house that was built prior to 1975, it might still have asbestos siding and asbestos roofing on it. Interestingly, there seems to be a geographic pattern that indicate hotspots within the state of Texas: Galveston, Jefferson, Harris, Bexar, Tarrant and Dallas county clearly stand out as reporting the highest number of new mesothelioma injury diagnoses.

If there’s an accident or an injury, there is a lawyer, right? Personal injury lawyers had all of a sudden a new business niche to expand into. Mesothelioma class action lawsuits caught the public’s eye, because of the big time money that was involved in those cases.

And that’s why this whole area became an opportunity to grow into a lucrative business enterprise for personal injury attorneys. Often the mesothelioma compensation claims don’t need any court involvement. A good number of former and present employers of the asbestos industry were ordered or chose on a voluntary basis, to contribute into mesothelioma compensation trust funds.
